Bobs Haworth was born in Queenstown, South Africa. She studied at the Royal College of Art in London. She came to Canada in 1923 and settled in Toronto. She began to exhibit regularly with the major institutions, of which she was also a member, including the Royal Canadian Academy, the Ontario Society of Artists, the Canadian Group of Painters, and served as president of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour. She was also appointed as honorary president of the Canadian Guild of Potters. During World War Two she and her husband Peter were appointed Official War Artists and traveled to the west coast to capture the Canadian Armed Forces. She lectured at the University of Toronto. She had a solo show at Roberts Gallery, and this painting was likely included in this exhibition. Her work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the National Gallery of South Africa, the Art Gallery of Ontario and in numerous other public and private collections, including the famed J.S. McLean collection of Canadian Art.
