Bernice Martin was born in Shelbourne, Ontario. She studied Frank Carmichael of the Group of Seven and J.W. Beatty at the University of Toronto, the University of Alberta and McMaster University in Ontario. She exhibited with the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers shows from 1954-1971, the Canadian Expo in 1967 at Montreal, the Canadian Centennial in 1967 at Toronto City Hall, the Canadian National Exhibnition in Toronto 1968-1969. She also has exhibited her work at numerous Art Galleries, Museums and Public Libraries across Canada from 1947-1971. She was a member of the Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers and served as Chairman of the Presentation Graphic Arts Print Commission 1956-57. She was a member of the Arts and Letters Club in Toronto. Her works are in numerous public buildings, schools and private collections across Canada and also internationally.
